Chiranjeevi Celebrates Birthday 54th
Chiranjeevi! In Telugu language this phrase means to live forever. It is a blessing that an older person bestows upon a younger one. For a telugu person, Chiranjeevi is a blessing bestowed by the “Kalamatalli” herself. We should consider ourselves lucky to be living during a time when Chiru was/is ruling the industry like an emperor. Economists mention that there cannot be monopoly in this era; I bet they have not seen the Telugu film industry since mid eighties.
Shiva Sankara Vara Prasad a.k.a Chiranjeevi a.k.a Chiru, born in an ordinary family, went on to become a role model for millions with his hard-work, talent and humbleness. He had made plans to become a cost and work accountant after completing his graduation however destiny had other plans for him; accounting industry’s loss became film industry’s gain. Chiru’s film debut began with a movie titled “Manavoori pandavulu” and his name in this movie was “Paartha”. His role got a good recognition and thereafter he got significant roles in movies like Punaadi rallu, Idi kadha kaadu. The latter was directed by K. Balachander, a legendary director. Chiru acted in a negative role and he delivered the goods with an astonishing performance and matured dialog delivery. Chiru had other hits like Oorikichina Maata, Nakili Manishi, Tayaramma Bangarayya, Mogudu Kavali (a good musical hit). These movies marked the upcoming of a young actor, who had oodles of talent.
Chiru had some memorable movies like Intlo Ramiah Veedhilo Krishnayya, Subhalekha, Manchu pallaki, Magamaharaaju, Devantakudu, Abhilasha. He got an opportunity to act with class and mass directors. These movies apart from being commercial hits also made Chiru, a financially viable hero in the industry. His performance in Abhilasha is remembered by movie lovers to this day. Khaidi changed his life as an actor and he became a force to reckon with. This movie had Chiru perform a very intense role and he shocked the industry with his mind-boggling action sequences and body language. A leading film magazine opined that Chiru was the only actor in that generation (mid-eighties) who could effectively use his eyes in portraying expressions.
At a time when dancing meant an old hero running around trees with young girls, Chiru showed the industry what dancing really was. In my opinion, Chiru is the greatest dancer in the Indian film industry not because he dances well but his dances have grace and elegance. It is normal that when a lead pair is dancing on the screen, men ogle at the heroine and women look at the hero but Sridevi (post JVAS) mentioned that when Chiru is dancing on the screen, men and women watch Chiru. Sridevi acted with lots of heroes but I wonder why she only praised Chiru and no other actor? Also, Chiru became a role-model to actors like Hrithik, Govinda and Tamil star Vijay, who were sportive enough to praise Chiru and his dancing abilities in their respective interviews.
After Khaidi, Chiru had numerous hits. I will run out of energy writing and talking about them. He always tried to satiate the artist in him even after emerging as one of the greatest mass heroes ever produced. He performed roles like Chantabbai, Swayamkrushi, Aradhana and Rudraveena. These movies proved that Chiru is one of the rarest mass heroes who can actually act!
With Jagadeka veerudu atiloka sundari, Gang leader and Gharana Mogudu breaking all rules of gravity, he became the face of Telugu cinema and showed the country the potential of the Telugu film industry. Chiru went on to become the highest paid actor of the nation and ended up on the India today cover page (national edition), in an article titled – “Is he bigger than Bachchan?” It was a cover page editorial section followed by a 5 page article and he was the first south Indian regional film star to get this honor. He made his foray into Hindi and acted in a couple of movies like Pratibandh and Aaj kaa gundaraj, which became respectable hits.
Mid-nineties were not too kind to him and he did not have golden run at the BO. His movies still commanded the same business potential and openings however he did not get a movie good enough to satiate his sky-high image. He took a sabbatical and returned with hat-trick hits: Hitler, Master and Bavagaru bagunnara. The music of Choodalani vundi became a rage, especially among children, who sang away “ramma chilakamma” to glory. He bid goodbye to old millennium with Annayya, another mass blockbuster. His career took another turn with Indra and Tagore re-defining market potential of Telugu movies. Anji his latest release will be remembered by Telugu film industry for its graphics and Chiru should be admired for accepting such a unique script. As a true fan, I am waiting for him to shower rain of entertainment in his forthcoming Shankar Dada MBBS.
Off-Screen
Apart from being a megastar on silver screen, Chiru is a man with a golden heart. He started a charitable trust named “Chiranjeevi charitable trust” and made his fans partners in social welfare activities. Chiru has done his bit during Kargil and is proving to be a real-life hero for many bright and brilliant yet poor students. Lots of detractors use CCT as a basis to carp evil at Chiru but they forget about other trusts formed for “public welfare” by others.
It is natural that a person develops arrogance when he achieves a higher position. Chiru is one actor who never ever developed this arrogance. With each success he became more humble and down-to-earth; a virtue that made him a blessed individual.
He is an actor who encourages new talent and appreciates other actors. This probably is the reason why 90% of the new comers regard him as their role model. Umpteen times he is known to have congratulated younger and upcoming actors on their success. He enjoys tremendous camaraderie with all his co-stars. He respects his older generation and is respected by his younger generation.
Guru garu, I wish you a very happy birthday and would like to thank you for being a role model to me and many others. You are one of the fewest actors in India who obtained fans and their TRUE adulation & affection because of the strength in your character, talent, performance and humility. I consider myself fortunate to be known as your fan. As a true fan, I pray that all your dreams turn into a reality and you achieve each and every thing you ever aspired for.

విక్రమ్ సినిమాలు ఎలా వుంటాయి? అతని పాత్రలు ఎలా ఉంటాయి? అనే క్రేజ్ ప్రేక్షకుల్లో నెలకొంది. ఆయన నటించే చిత్రాలలో సందేశంతోపాటు కాస్త సీరియస్నెన్నుకూడా జోడింపుగా ఉంటాయి. అవినీతిని, అన్యాయాన్ని ఎదురించే సూపర్మ్యాన్లా ఆయన గత చిత్రాలు నిలిచాయి. అపరిచితుడు అటువంటి కోవలోనిదే. కానీ మల్లన్న చిత్రం మాత్రం కాస్త అటూ ఇటూగా… అర్జున్ నటించిన జెంటిల్మెన్, మెగాస్టార్ నటించిన ‘ఠాగూర్’ చిత్రాల కలగలిపి అధునాతన సాంకేతిక పరిజ్ఞానంతో తీసిన చిత్రంలా కనబడుతుంది.
విక్రమ్ చిత్రాలంటేనే అన్యాయాలను ఎదిరించే పాత్రలని ఇట్టే తెలిసిపోతుంది. అలా ఎదిరించే మల్లన్న సి.బి.ఐ. కార్యాలయంలో అవినీతి నిరోధక శాఖలో అధికారి. అతని పై ఆఫీసర్ అంటే సిబిఐ జాయింట్ డైరెక్టర్ కృష్ణ. ఆర్థిక నేరాలకు సంబంధించిన కేసులను పర్యవేక్షించే బాధ్యతను మల్లన్నకు అప్పగిస్తాడు. మిన్ను విరిగి మీద పడ్డా అతి సాధారణంగా తీసుకునే రకం మల్లన్నది.
శ్రీశైలం ఊరిలో ఈశ్వరుని కొలుస్తుంటారు. ఏ సమస్యలొచ్చినా ఆయనకు విన్నవించుకుంటారు. గుడిలో చెట్టుకు తమ సమస్యలను రాసి కడితే పరిష్కారమవుతాయని వారి నమ్మకం. తన తండ్రి ఆపరేషన్కు డబ్బులుకావాలనీ, తమ పిల్ల పెండ్లికి డబ్బులు కావాలనీ, పొలాన్ని కబ్జా చేస్తున్నారనీ ఇలా రకరకాల సమస్యలతో కాగితాలు కడతారు. వాటిని మల్లన్న మారువేషంలో వచ్చి వాటిని పరిష్కరిస్తుంటాడు. అందుకు ఆయన ఎన్నుకున్న మార్గం గబ్బిలం లాంటి డ్రెస్తో కోడిపుంజు మాస్క్తో వింతగా కన్పిస్తాడు.
పోలీసు అధికారుల్లో అవినీతిని కూడా దేవుడి సెంటిమెంట్తో అరికడతాడు. మల్లన్న తనకున్న టీమ్ సభ్యులతో రాష్ట్రంలో ఎక్కడెక్కడ కోటీశ్వరులన్నారో లిస్ట్ తయారుచేస్తారు. ఆ క్రమంలో లెక్కలేనంత సంపాదించిన పల్నాటి పరంజ్యోతి పాపారావు (పిపిపి) అని పిలవడే (ఆశిష్విద్యార్థి) ఇంటిపై దాడిచేస్తాడు మల్లన్న. అక్రమంగా సంపాదించిన డబ్బును పట్టుకునే సమయానికి ఢిల్లీ నుంచి హోం మంత్రి ఫోన్ చేయడంతో వెనక్కు తగ్గుతాడు.
అప్పుడే ఇటలీలోవున్న అతని కుమార్తె సుబ్బలక్ష్మి (శ్రియ)తో ఫోన్లో మాట్లాడతారు. చిన్న విషయానికి హడావుడి చేసే తత్త్వం ఆమెది. ఆ తర్వాత ఇండియా వచ్చి తన తండ్రి పక్షవాతానికి లోనయినట్లు తెలుసుకుని ఇందుకు కారణమైన మల్లన్నపై పగసాధించుకోవాలని నిర్ణయించుకుంటుంది. తండ్రినుంచి పర్మిషన్ తీసుకుని ప్రేమ పేరుతో మల్లన్న ఆటకట్టించాలని ప్రయత్నిస్తుంది.
సుబ్బలక్ష్మి విషయం టీమ్సభ్యులకు నచ్చకపోయినా తనూ ప్రేమిస్తున్నట్లు నటిస్తానని చెబుతారు. ఆ క్రమంలో పేదల కష్టాలు తీర్చే మల్లన్న దేవుడు కాదు.. ఈ మల్లన్నే అని విషయాన్ని గ్రహించి పట్టుకునేట్లు చేస్తుంది. మరోవైపు టాస్క్ఫోర్స్ అధికారి ప్రభు మల్లన్న ఎవరు అనే విషయంపై ఆరాతీస్తుంటాడు. ఆ క్రమంలో మల్లన్న దేవుడుకాదు. మనిషే అని గ్రహిస్తాడు. మల్లన్నను పట్టుకోవాలని చూస్తాడు.
ఆ తర్వాత విదేశీ బ్యాంక్లో కోట్లాది రూపాయలను ఉన్న పెద్ద చేపను పట్టేందుకు మెక్సికో వెళతాడు మల్లన్న. దీనికి పి.పి.పి. దొంగపాస్పోర్టుతో సహకరిస్తాడు. ఆ డీల్ ఓకే అయితే 50-50 అని పి.పి.పి. చెబుతాడు. అందుకు అక్కడ డబ్బు బ్యాంక్లో జమచేయాలంటే.. పర్సనల్ కోడ్ కావాలి గనుక మల్లన్నతోపాటు తన కూతురును పంపిస్తాడు. అలా వెళ్ళిన సుబ్బలక్ష్మి ప్రేమలో నిజంగానే పడుతుంది.
మరి అక్కడి నల్లధనాన్ని ఎలా ఇండియాకు తీసుకొచ్చాడు? టాస్క్ఫోర్స్ అదికారి మల్లన్నను పట్టుకున్నాడా? ఆ తర్వాత ఏమయింది? అనేది సినిమా.
కథ నిడివి 3 గంటలకుపైగా ఉంది. విక్రమ్ తన పాత్రకు న్యాయం చేసినా కోడిపుంజు తరహాలో ఆయన చేసిన చేష్టలు శృతిమించాయి. ఏదో కొత్తదనం కోసం చేసినట్లుందికానీ ప్రేక్షకుడ్ని పెద్దగా ఆకట్టుకోలేకపోయింది. శ్రియ తన అందాలను చక్కగా ఆరబోసింది. బాత్రూమ్లో పాడే పాటలో చాలా సెక్సీగా నటించింది. ‘అలెగ్రా.. అలెగ్రా.. పాట, ‘ఎక్స్క్యూజ్మి.. మిస్టర్ మల్లన్న ‘పాటలు ఆకట్టుకున్నాయి. దేవీశ్రీప్రసాద్ సంగీతం కొత్తదనం లేకపోయినా బాగానే ఉన్నాయి. ముమైత్ఖాన్, విలన్ మధ్యసాగే పాట ‘పచ్చగడ్డి కోసే పడుచుపిల్ల…’ తో కొత్తప్రయోగం చేసినా రీమిక్స్ అంతగా ఆకట్టుకోలేకపోయింది.
ముఖ్యంగా విక్రమ్ తన పాటలను తనే పాడుకోవడం సూటయింది. ప్రజలకు మేలు చేసే క్రమంలో వృద్ధుడి పాత్రలోనూ, ఐశ్వర్యారాయ్ కావాలని తుంటరి చెట్టుకు కాగితం రాసే సందర్భంలో అమ్మాయి పాత్ర ద్వారా బుద్ధి చెబుతాడు. ఏది చేసినా తన టీమ్తో కలిసి టెక్నాలజీ ఉపయోగించి పైకి ఎగరటాలు చేస్తుంటాడు. ఇక మెక్సికోలో నల్లడబ్బును మార్చుకోవడం… దాన్ని డీ కోడ్ చేయడం వంటి విషయాలు సామాన్యునికి ఏమాత్రం అర్థంకావు.
సీరియస్గా సాగే ఈ చిత్రంలో స్పీడ్ బ్రేక్లా బ్రహ్మానందం కామెడీ ఉంది. చిత్రానికి ఏమాత్రం ఉపయోగంలేని ఎపిసోడ్ అది. దాన్ని కట్ చేస్తేనే సినిమాకు ఉపయోగం. సంభాషణలు ఆకట్టుకున్నాయి. 50 రూపాయలకోసం ఎన్నో కష్టాలు పడి మనిషి సుఖం కోసం చాలానే ఖర్చు చేస్తాడు. 30 లక్షలిచ్చి ముమైత్ఖాన్ వంటి అమ్మాయితో ఎంజాయ్ చేసే బదులు ఆ డబ్బుతో మూడు గ్రామాలను దత్తత తీసుకోవచ్చు. కొన్ని వందల మందిని బతికించవచ్చు… అనే లాజిక్లు బాగున్నాయి.
కృష్ణకు, ప్రభుకు మధ్య జరిగే సంభాషణలు ఆసక్తికరంగా ఉంటాయి. 41 సర్వీస్లో చేయలేని పనిని… మల్లన్న చేసి ఎలా ప్రజలకు దేవుడయ్యాడనేది లాజిక్కుగా ఉంది. ఒకరికి పీకలదాకా డబ్బుంటే.. మరొకరికి పీకకోస్తే డబ్బు… నిజమైన స్వాతంత్య్రం విదేశీయులనుంచి పొందామనేది కరెక్ట్కాదు. స్వదేశంలో దోచింది విదేశాల్లో కూడబెడుతూ అరాచక కార్యకలాపాలకు కారణమవుతున్న వారినుంచి మనకు స్వాతంత్య్రం రావాలన్న పాయింట్కు క్లాప్స్ పడ్డాయి.
ఇక సాంకేతిక పరంగా విజువల్ ఎఫెక్ట్స్ బాగా ఉపయోగపడ్డాయి. ఎడిటింగ్లో కాస్త గందరగోళంగా ఉంది. ఏది తియ్యాలో తీయడకూడదనేట్లుగా ఉంది. కామెడీని పూర్తిగా తీయడం, రెండో భాగం నత్తనడకన సాగడం లేకుండా చేస్తే బాగుండేది. అపరిచితుడు రేంజ్లో ఊహించుకుని వచ్చిన ప్రేక్షకుడికి నిరాశే మిగులుతుంది. కోట్లు ఖర్చుపెట్టి పాత కథల్నే తీయడంలా ఉంది. చివరిలో మల్లన్న పట్టుబడ్డా సాక్షం దొరక్క వేరే ఊరికి బదిలీ అవుతాడు. మళ్ళీ అక్కడా ఇదే పరిస్థితి. ఈ సినిమా కూడా ఓపెనింగ్లో విపరీతంగా థియేటర్లు ఎగబడ్డాయి. వారం తర్వాత అందులో చాలా బదిలీ అవుతాయనడంలో సందేహమే లేదు.

Anushka As 'Rani Rudrama Devi' By Rajamouli
The tough task master S S Rajamouli who has been getting the due credit for the latest blockbuster ‘Magadheera’ is now said to be working on another historical subject. Apparently, this time he is said to have chosen the real life character of Rani Rudrama Devi.
There is news that Rajamouli has begun to make his research into the life of this great warrior queen and soon he would be getting the script ready. Sources close to him say that Rajamouli had ideas such as these from a long time but then he was not sure how feasible it was technically.
To top it all, he is said to be looking at the hot and voluptuous Anushka as the leading lady. The hysteria that ‘Arundhati’ created has impacted not only the audience but movie makers as well. With Anushka and Rajamouli as a team, one can imagine the ammunition the project will have.
Sankham music Release on 19 August
Gopichand’s latest movie Sankham Audio will be released on 19 August by Aditya music. Thaman composes music. Trisha plays Heroine role. Siva (Souryam director) directs this movie. Bhagawan and Pulla Rao jointly produce this movie. Sankham movie will be released in the first half of September.

Naga Chaitanya’s 2nd movie in the direction of Gowtam Menon
Muhurat of Naga Chaitanya’s second movie in the direction of Gowtam Menon was performed at Annapurna studios today morning. Manjula and Sanjay produce this movie on Indira Productions banner. AR Rahman composes music and Manoj handles camera. Anthony edits the film and Rajeevan is the art director.
Three iconic families of Telugu cinema (Akkineni, Ghattamaneni and Daggubati) joined their hands to make this movie.
Krishna sounded the clapboard, ANR switched on the camera and D Rama Naidu directed the first shot.

Mahatma' gets release date
The new movie 'Mahatma' which marks the hundredth film of family star Srikanth and being made under the direction of the ace movie maker Krishna Vamsi is currently reaching the final stages of its making. Meanwhile, news has arrived that the makers have decided to release the film on a special day. That would be October 2nd, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and given the relevance of the theme, they say it would be special. |
