Manorama Movie Review

Movie Review : Manorama
Rating : 1/5
Banner : ZEE Motion Pictures
Cast : Charmi, Nishan, Sridhar Rao, Pradeep, Lahari, Sunayana, Srivastav, Ali, MS, Narsing Yadav and Others
Cinematography : Jagan
Music : Koti
Producer: Zee Group
Director: V Eswar Reddy
Released Date: March 27, 2009

Story:
A tale without meaning, the story begins with Gitanjali a k a Gilli (Charmi) who comes to Hyderabad to spend few days with her friends (Lahari and Sridhar). She lives near Manorama café and there comes a stranger (Nishan) with a bag. His motive is to blow a bomb in the café, meanwhile Gilli is bored and wants to kill time. With her lip reading skills, she figures out from a distance that a boy is threatening to commit suicide on phone to his girlfriend. Gilli becomes the angel, also notices the number with her abilities and calls up that girl. She comes to Manorama to inform the lover boy but instead the bomber sees her and falls for her. Few twists of events happen and the bomb also fails to explode on time. Meanwhile, both the stranger and Gilli get to know each other and in no time, they fall in love with each other though they don't admit it. what happens from there forms the rest of the story.
Presentation:
The director has attempted to mix love and humanity in a matured proportion but instead it has become a mess. The narrative lacked the punch and the presentation was just average. The script was weak, the screenplay was mediocre. Music was good at places and one song is touching, cinematography did not have anything special to do. Editing was neat. Costumes and art department were apt. Charmee was her regular self and she seems to have put on some weight, Nishan was handsome and has shown potential but he needs to work more on his expressions. M S, Ali were standard. The others added their bit but nothing significant to talk about.
Conclusion:
The film takes off on a different mode in the start and ends up at a completely different note. The plot is known in just ten minutes and the pace is extremely slow as the maker was trying to fill the two and a half hour slot. While the first half goes about with the building up of the plot, a twist happens just before the interval. However, there is no momentum or exciting moments and instead the climax gets into a very depressing mode. The film could have been a lot better if there was a tight screenplay and a meaningful connection to the storyline and the characters. This is hard to succeed at the box office.

AKASAMANTHA

Film: AKASAMANTHA
Rating: 3/5
Banner: Sri Venkateswara Creations
Cast: Prakash Raj, Aishwarya, Trisha, Ganesh, Talaivasal Vijay, Venkat Raman, Jagapathi Babu etc
Music: Vidya Sagar
Cinematography: Preetha
Producer: Dil Raju
Director: Radha Mohan
Release Date: March 27, 2009

Story:

A sentimental tale, the story begins at the backdrop of a hill station and that too at a park. Here is Raghuram (Prakash Raj) who comes for his daily jogs and here he chances upon Sudhakar (Jaggu) who is the proud father of a two year old kid. Sudhakar gets his baby girl to the park and spends time while she prances around the children's play zone. Both Raghuram and Sudhakar get to have a conversation and it drifts to the flashback of Raghuram and his daughter Abhi (Trisha). He recalls the time when she was born and how at each step of her life, he had been there and the eventual emotional bondage they develop. However, things take a bit of a turn when Abhi falls in love with a sardarji (Ganesh) and the emotional twists that take place due to this new romance. For the rest of it, watch the movie in the theatres.
Presentation:
The director has come up with a smooth emotional tale and both the narration and presentation were quite exemplary. The dialogues were meaningful, the script was neat and the screenplay was apt. The music was a letdown in terms of the songs but the background score suited the emotion very well. Full marks to the cinematography department for coming up with some exotic locales and scenic beauties. Editing was crisp but could have been better at few ends. Costumes were trendy and the art department did hard work in few places. Jagapathi Babu was elegant in his role and though it was brief, he made his presence felt. Trisha carried out her role with aplomb, Aishwarya was alright. The real show stealer once again was Prakashraj who depicts the varied range of emotions in a versatile and touching manner. Thalaivasal Vijay was good with his comedy and the others added their bit to contribute.
Conclusion:
The film is rich in terms of technical aspects and quality and though the melodrama was a bit on the higher side, overall the movie has been quite touching and tender. While the first half goes about with the comedy and lighter elements, it is the second half where things go towards the emotional side and perhaps make few ladies teary eyed. The film will surely appeal to the family audience and most importantly, fathers and daughters. There is a matured sense of approach here and the box office might be smiling brightly with this flick.

BUDDHIMANTUDU Review

Film: BUDDHIMANTUDU
Rating: 2.75/5
Banner: Sri Lakshmi Venkateshwara Pvt. & Ltd Sri Chowdeshwari Prasanna Movies
Cast: Upendra, Pooja Gandhi, Suman Ranganath, Nathanya, Saloni, Vrinda, Lakshmi, Jayaprakash Reddy and Others
Music: Vijay Antony
Cinematography: R.Giri
Producer: S.V. Rajendra Singh Babu & A. Mohan
Director: Ramnath Rigvedi
Release Date: March 27, 2009

Story:

An intelligent story, the movie begins with Panchamrutham (Upendra) standing in the court facing charges of cheating four beautiful women and the public prosecutor (Siddaraj Kalyankar) heaping more and more charges against him. Panchamrutham who speaks in a typical local accent denies having any links with these beautiful women and also argues his case to prove that he is innocent. Much to the dismay of the girls, police department and the PP, the judgement goes in favor of Panchamrutham and the judge (Lakshmi) sets him free. As fate would have it, Panchamrutham again ends up in the court and this time it is due to cheating the beautiful daughter of the judge herself. The lawmakers are bent upon getting him convicted and they rope in his brother but then the smart man that he is, Panchamrutham gives his logic and yet again he emerges successful. The list of women (Pooja Gandhi, Brinda, Suman Ranganathan, Saloni and Nathanya) are helpless but then the time for truth comes. Apparently, Panchamrutham is the man who donned the roles of Zakir Hussain, Samarasimha Reddy, Ashok Mittal, Shyamprasad, Rajneesh and all this he does with only one mission - to teach these arrogant and haughty women a lesson and cut them down to size. There is a very strong flashback connected to it that leads to the death of his sister in law and that's when the peace loving Panchamrutham becomes a skilled conman for greedy women. What is that link? How are the women associated with it? All this forms the rest of the story.

Presentation:
The director has come out with a beautiful plot and he has kept enough fuel through his slick presentation and gripping narration. The dialogues were meaningful, the script was tight to the spot, the screenplay was brilliantly executed. Music was grand and the cinematography was equally a treat that one could relish. Editing was perfect and the pace of the movie gets going at every point. Upendra has come out with a flamboyant performance and has shown why he is loved by the masses. All the girls - Pooja, Suman, Brinda, Nathanya, Saloni did their bits with ease and each song that they had, they came out with their glamour. Lakshmi was dignified, Sridhar was apt choice. The others did their bit with required standards.

Conclusion:
The film has come out with some really thoughtful message to the women audience and the scenes at the courtroom are really well done. The entire length of the film goes around the schedule of how the greed is brought to its knees through an intelligent man and the inclusion of songs and other sequences provided delight for the mass audience. Upendra has a strong mass appeal and though the film has got the Kannada flavor in it, this might get accepted by the B and C centres in a big way.
