The Film
Current should have actually been given the title Undercurrent because in this love story the factors opposing the union of lovers is their own individual attitudes.
The Synopsis
In an aeronautical engineering college Sneha (Sneha Ullal) and Sushanth (Sushanth) are students and fall in love with each other. Sneha always thinks about the future and makes career plans as well as married life plans. Sushanth is a carefree soul who lives each moment without bothering about the future. There is also a parallel love story between two other students Bose (Vennela Kishore) and Geetha (Geetha).
Sneha takes Sushanth to her father (Charan Raj) who is a judge. Noticing the live-for-the-moment attitude of Sushanth, he gives a stern lecture. Upset and hurt by Sneha’s father’s blunt observations, Sushanth walks away from the life of Sneha.
Sneha then tells Sushanth that since he was after her and sown the seeds of love, it is also his duty to remove the last remnants of love from her heart. Sushanth does things like getting arrested from a brothel and coming home in a drunken state, even upsetting his parents (Tanikella Bharani and Sudha). He does all this to distance himself from Sneha.
The rest of the story deals with the question of whether Sneha and Sushanth meet again or separated permanently.
The Performances
Sushanth puts up a typical expression throughout the film that gives him little scope to be expressive as per the different situations. Sneha Ullal has an ample opportunity to perform and she has fully utilized it and looked quite glamorous too. Tanikella Bharani, Charan Raj and Sudha are convincing. Kishore and Geetha fit into their roles. All others including the comedians are adequate in their roles.
The Techniques
This twist-full of love tale has a weak screenplay and therefore the narration gets a bumpy ride. The lead characters’ attitudes are not properly justified to be convincing. Showing the parents as helpless spectators to the antics of their children is rather appalling. The cinematography is good. The music is average except for a couple of songs.
